More Panela, Less refined sugar
Much has been said about the benefits of consuming panela … but do you really know them?
While it is true that we love to consume all kinds of sweets and desserts, it is inevitable to think about the amount of calories and industrial processes existing in refined sugar, so we often end up depriving ourselves from those foods.
Fortunately we have an affordable and 100% natural sweetener at our fingertips, it is the panela, an unrefined sugar obtained by evaporating sugarcane juices which also has the versatility of refined sugar, so it is perfect for the preparation of your sauces, sweets and all kinds of pastries with a pleasant and comforting taste.
It is known that all types of sugar contain sucrose, which is a carbohydrate (empty calories). However, sucrose only takes part of approximately 10% of the panela composition. Brown sugar contains between 96% and 98% sucrose and white and extra-white sugar with a high degree of refinement contain 99% sucrose thus they are totally devoid of minerals and proteins.
As panela process is handcrafted, it does not undergo any process of refinement or adulteration, and it conserves vitamins from A to E, fiber, and minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, zinc, iron and magnesium.
Panela has become a very popular food not only in Latin America but also around the world providing among others, the following health benefits:
- Strengthens the urinary, immune and respiratory systems.
- Fights anemia.
- Strengthens the bones thanks to the calcium and phosphorus content.
Replace refined sugar with panela not only for sweetening the food but as a natural exfoliant and you will notice its benefits!
